The Northern Chumash tribe hosted a cultural burn at the Johnson Ranch Open Space on October 19, just south of San Luis Obispo.
A small 2-acre piece of land was burned with the support of Cal Fire, the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, and the SLO County Air Pollution Control District.
The burn was aimed at revitalizing plants, supporting native ecosystems, and reducing wildfire risk in the area.
Smoke from the burn could be seen near Highway 101 and in surrounding communities.
